coolant hose 140-160 1974

I just changed the water pump in the 74 164E. The hose that goes from the reservoir to the top of the radiator is leaking at the top of the radiator. I would assume it is because the hose is 30 years old and after coming off just doesn’t want to hold anymore. Could there be any other reason for this leakage? I went to the store to get a replacement hose. The hose looks slightly larger, but the diameter in the center looks right. Would I be okay to clamp this hose, or should I avoid that? Thanks!
