Well, last night I did what I said I would never do! Took off the entire rear end of the 89 240 project car in an attempt to do all the bushings. The torque rods and transverse rod were small battles easily won.
Getting the trailing arms off took more cursing, but was finally accomplished. All the rods and arms will go to my local shop today to press in the new bushings. Now I am faced with getting the big trailing bushings out without having the infamous bushing removal tool.
Thinking about cutting them or drilling out the centers and starting there?
Any suggestions?? I don't want to damage the dog ear holes that hold the bushings. Already have drenched it with PB blaster - wish I could pick up the car and sit it in a bucket of pb! LOL
After going this far, I'm not sure I would attempt this again. Now I know why the garages hate to do them. I had one car taken to a local garage to do all the rear bushings and they gave it back to the owner with just the two rear trailing arm bushings done (said all the rest were good and they greased them - yea, right) Also, they told the owner the rear bushings just fell out - after that statement, I checked the car to make sure they actually had put them in!!!
If I get lucky the two big ones in my 89 240 project car will fall out from all the PB blaster - any bets?? Maybe if I stare at them??? LOL
