Cooling System questions 200 1989

1. How important is it to use the "Deionized" type of water. If yes, where to buy it? ... never heard of it.

2. Should I deburr the a new water pump's edges on the sides of the pump? These edges are not at a 90 degree angle to the flat surface of the pump face, like this: _|

3. I have some cooling system cleaner that gets mixed with water to clean it out good. Are the cleaners compatible with the coolant temp sensor? Any other known problems?

After I drain the coolant and add the cleaner and water, do I leave the lower rad hose open (or a petcock), and run the engine while it is draining, keeping fresh cool tap water going into the overflow bottle, or do I close it all up and drain it out after running the system sealed shut?

4. I copied some info from the FAQ and ARCHIVES, on water pump installs. What are these statements about:

"... if the bolts attaching the clutch fan are rounded, be prepared for a long ordeal, or take it to a reputable garage." (Q: Does this person mean the hex nut part of the bolts, or something else.

Q: Why not just buy new bolts?

"... the pump is installed by putting the studs through the two oval holes."

Q: I thought the studs were already in the block?

" ... If you use a small Philips screwdriver in the bottom hole to pry up and start the bolt in the top hole, start the bolt in the left side, and then start the bottom bolt then tighten all of them before installing the two nuts, you shouldn't have any leaks."

Thanks guys,
diyer
