What is the difference between AW-70 and AW-70L (lock up)? 700

Which transmission is recommended? Will an AW-70 work with my car? Are there any other transmissions that will fit?

Keith's 1990 740GL Wagon, 206k, 2.3 litre 4 cyl., Regina, non-turbo, AW 70L, B230F, love the Volvo design.
