3-1-1 code for tranny 94 960 900

I'm showing a 311 code in the 1 hole. The 311 code appears to be the RPM sensor in the tranny not getting it's information to the ECU. I've checked the connections, and cleared the code. It's fine for about 20 - 30 minutes of driving, then the fault is back. Maybe heat related?

Any suggestions welcome!
