COOLING SYSTEM RUNNING HOT 200 1985

Temp started to creep up during normal driving, and soon it stayed hot all the time. Then had a part replaced (I don't know what the mechanic did, but the part was used and cost $75.00. He said an O.E. part (plastic) would be $150.00, and a new metal one would run $300.00 and last forever...any ideas?) and that fixed it for about a week, now the same thing happening. What gives?

Thanks!
