Is a used transmission worth it??? 200

I am having transmission problems and wanted to know if it was worth putting a good used transmission in my 240 wagan. A friend told me that it was not worth it because after putting a used transmission in your car after the factory transmission will cause the car to ALWAYS have transmission problems. Is this true? Sounds sort of wack to me.
