WHY THE O.D.?? 900 1991

Well, the stupid question is the one that's never asked so here it goes: How exactly is one to use the O.D option on an auto 940? Sure, I just leave mine on (engaged) 100% of the time, that's a no brainer. But, does anyone here use it otherwise, as in disengaging the O.D for around-town driving? There must be a good reason why there is such a "push button" electronic overdrive feature.
