I recently posted regarding vibrating sensation on my '89 740 Turbo Wagon with 110 K miles while driving at around 60 MPH. I replaced my sway bar links this morning. Easy job except for the nut holding the link to the control arm. My arm still hurts from loosening that one. Unfortunately the rattling and vibrating is still there. My next line of business are my ball joints and control arm bushings. Especially the bushings look pretty shot. I'd like to assess this job a bit before I go ahead and do it.
1) From what I remember there are two control arms on each side - one further towards the front, and one towards the rear. Is the rear one called the radius rod? Do any bushings need replacement on that one as well?
2) Is this a DIY job? Do I need any special tools, such as a press to put the new bushings in?
3) Do I need to take out the entire control arm? Does the bushing at the top of the arm - where it connects to the body of the car - need replacement?
4) Does this job require compressing of the spring coils/shocks?
I looked over the FAQs a good 4 times, and it's pretty confusing. Anyone with some experience with this? I would really appreciate any help, pointers, images on the web to show me around, etc.
Thanks a ton!
