Driver's power window difficulties 900 1993

The wife's 940 has had a power window problem for a while now. The driver's window moves up & down just fine for most of it's travel - doesn't feel loose or appear to be shifting laterally. But when going down, the last 3" or so of travel, it slows significantly, and makes some awful noises.

I went through the FAQ several times, and had the door panel off yesterday. The regulator bolts (only 2 that I can see) appear to be tight. The channels are freshly lubed, as is the regulator and it's tracks, and the regulator slide clips look acceptably good - they have hairline fractures in spots, but they don't appear to be stressed.

As I work the window up and down, here's what happens: When the window gets to the part of the rear window track where the guide tapers down more narrowly, the resistance to motion increases exponentially, and the rear regulator slide clip groans and scrapes all traces of grease from it's track. The inner door panel moves noticeably under the torque of the motor. It looks like the bottom of the rear window channel needs to be further out (towards outer door skin), but it's butted against the side-impact beam.

I can't figure this one out. Anybody got any ideas?
