Hello,
My '91 740 Volvo acceleration has rapidly deteriorated in the past
two months. During engine start, it may take half dozen cranks
before the engine can idle on its own without dying. On 1st gear,
it had terrible time taking forever getting RPM to go above 2k,
need to be very very gentle on the gas pedal to get the RPM above
2k mark and it is then smooth sailing thereafter. While under 2k rpm,
pressing the pedal to the floor would only see RPM getting gradually
lower; ditto on other gears.
Replaced air filter, fuel intake regulator and
its vacuum hose but did not see any improvement.
Run engine diagnostics but no error code observed.
Spark plugs look clean.
The local Volvo dealership suggested replacing all
the fuel injectors, then the problem should go away...
Acceleration/cruising are trouble-free so long
RPM stays above 2k. So I manual-shift the automatic
transmission to make sure RPM stays high after each
gear shift. It is the first 10 seconds on 1st gear
pose the challenge going from 0 to 20mph.
Any advice or pointer?
Many Thanks!
Paul
