At the salvage yard I mentioned in my other post I saw about 200 Volvos. Several were fire victims. My dad came out with me and I pointed out to him in ALL of the cases where there appeared to have been a HEAVY front or rear impact the passenger compartment was intact and sustained virtually no intrusion from the engine compartment or trunk/wagon area. There were some very badly smashed cars there (an unusual number of rear end collisions) but I tried the doors and they opened! The door frames weren't even distorted.

I'm a Volvo-for-life guy from now on!
