I use regular bungie cords and run them in a triangle pattern, and yes, hooking the extra link to keep it from flying around. Best to size up what links you need, and then cut the extras off. The inside links were the ones that always made the noise/contact on my 245. Try and get short bungie on it and tie it off real close by so as to not get it wrapped on the brake stuff.
