The temp gauges in these later years are garbage. I use to have a '89 245, and that thing would go all over the place. I don't know if the year matters that much, but I've never had a problem with the temp gauge in my '80 245. I believe there are aftermarket temp gauge replacement kits if you are really worried about it. You could also take it to a shop with one of those heat guns, see if the car is really over heating or not.
