Steering issues... 140-160 1970

Hey Matt:

You're way ahead of me and my 145 project!

You're symptoms suggest to me the front-end rubber bushings may be shot. I've seen old rubber bushings come out with a consistency of thick tar.

One good front end diagnostic trick is to have someone else turn the wheel from side to side while you watch the linkage. Best if car is on the ground so there is force required to turn wheels. Watch for "lost motion" in all the steering links and watch for any undesirable motion at the control arm bushings.

Hopefully there are poly bushing kits for our old Volvos. I'll be looking for some soon and will post back what I find.

Later,
Al
