After lugging the shop compressor to a friends place to get a couple of long term stored cars mobile again (flat tires etc), and some other experiences like it, I'm thinking of fitting an air compressor to the car. Not some puny "pump up tires in 10 minutes or power an air locking diff" compressor, but something a bit beefier, either electric or belt driven, that will allow me to run air tools (such as an impact wrench) and pump up tires in reasonable time. Ideally something about the size of an AC compressor, if belt driven with a clutch to engage/disengage it. I'd probably be looking to install it in the 940 (which I tend to have with me most often), although installing it in the 145 and making that my "work truck" would also be an option. I might even put a 5 or 10 gallon storage tank somewhere under the car to act as a buffer (which is admittedly a lot easier on a 145, although even 940 have some unused space spread around the body).
Any ideas or recommendations on where to obtain such a compressor, and what brands/types to get or avoid? I can hardly imagine me being the first to want to put that kind of thing on a car or truck.
The other thing I'm looking for is recommendations on a split charging system, so I can install a secondary battery to run lights, tools and possibly a winch off without compromising my ability to get the vehicle started again on the primary battery.
Thirdly, does anyone know of a company building winch bumpers for either the 140 series or the 940, or will I be looking at an afternoon of cutting and welding my own?
