For the pressure, you should definitely go ahead and clean out your flame trap. Not too hard to do, and it should be done periodically.

As for the gunk, what color is it? The only time I ever saw gunk on my dipstick was when coolant was leaking into the oil because of a blown headgasket. Any oil in your coolant?
