'ticking' from engine

The injectors are quite noticeable with the hood open, and this is normal, but I suspect the noise you describe is more than that. After my '95 960 was parked for a couple of months, there was a loud tick or clatter from the engine. After running for a few km in third at around 4000rpm, it went away. I have seen this mentioned elsewhere - I think is it is a hydraulic lifter that looses some of its oil and takes a while to pump back up.
