Again, Coolant leak Help Me.

if I want to remove the thermostat housing and change a gasket, shall I first follow the direction for changing a new radiator to drain all the coolant first?
or I just need go ahead remove the housing?

pls give me some simple direction.
by the way I changed the radiator to a heavy duty metal rad. Of course I also changed all the hoses(lower, upper...) and the thermostat at 01 summer.

I am not sure if the thermo is already dead or not. and I am wondering if I do need a new thermostat kit, what kind of shall I buy? 92/190(cold climate) or 87/180?
I am at Milwaukee, WI.

thanks.
