lights flicker

If your brick is one before the time they used headlight relays (1985 I think), you may have a headlight switch going out. In the older Volvos, the entire current for the headlights and dash lights passes through the headlight switch. If the contacts on the switch start to corrode, there is heat produced which speeds up the corrosion and so on. I've seen several Volvos of this vintage with melted switches and connectors. If this is your problem, be sure to replace both the switch and connector.
