My guess is the same as JetDriver. The Bushing that bolts to the firewall cause that trailing arm to clunk. Fortunately they are one of the easiest to replace.

The shimmy: Is there any play in the tire indicating your wheel bearings are shot or that the bolt backed off a bit?
