I have a 1991 244. I have been having trouble getting the sucker started. It will start every once in a while, idle for a few moments, and then die. Today, I replaced the fuel filter (pump is running as is the relay switch), first time its been done since birth. Car started right up, idled very rough while the air was escaping the fuel lines and finally cleared up to normal. Left to take it for a test drive and it drove fine for 90 seconds and then started losing power, finally idling rough and then dying while at a stop light (lots of fun). Now it is back to the same old start problems, starting every once in a while, idling, and then dying if I give it any gas. Check engine light has been on for a while (yeah I know). Finally figured out how to read the codes. I am getting a 1-2-1 code, pointing to the AMM. I tried unplugging the AMM to go into "limp home" mode, but can't even do that. Tried cleaning contacts on the meter. I have an LH3.1 fuel injection system. Nothing. Abso*@#$&@lutely nothing. Am I going to have to lay down $350+ for a new AMM?
What else can I try? Why can't I "limp home"? And any suggestions before I go spend money? Thanks for all contributions to my fun.
