Three 8 mm hex head bolts hold the cap in place. These bolts also have Phillips head screw cuts in them. An 8 mm ratcheting head box end wrench makes the quickest job of changing the distributor cap.
The distributor is held in place by two 10 mm head bolts. Once again, a ratcheting head box end wrench is the quickest way to remove these bolts.
All the distributor does in your car is to route the spark to the proper cylinder. The timing is done by the RPM sensor which is below the distributor and mounted to the block. It picks up on a slotted ring attached to the ring gear.
