Idle Problems 700 1986

My 740 GLE is currently having problems while idling at a stop light or in traffic. although it never cuts off, while idling at a stop light the rpm meter will jump around really crazy. Nothing happens when the needle jumps up, but when it comes down, it sometimes goes below 500rpm and feels like it's about to stall. It's also been been idling around 500rpm without the needle jumping and it sometimes feels like it wants to stall. This occurs when the car is warm or cold, mostly when cold though. I've also noticed an overall louder idle. Any suggestions???
