Are you sure you are getting good contacts in the fuse box? The fuse on my 84s fuel pump had bad contacts and got so hot that I could not touch it(not to mention that the fuel pump would also shut down at the worst times). I put in a new fuse and cleaned the holder and now the fuse stays much cooler.
