Last night as stopped at the end of my driveway to back in, my cluch pedal went to the floor. Some quick pumping get it engaged one last time and that was it. There was cluth fluid all over the street and upon removing the slave cylinder I found a chunk of its seal was missing. Seems straight foward untill I remembered that the engine was running and I could select all the gears while sitting there with the failed slave. I would assume with slave missing the clutch would be engaged and I couldn't just select gears with the engine going. Perhaps there are a few reasons, all of which probably aren't good.
I would really appreciate any thoughts on what seems to have gone wrong. I should say I replaced my aluminum trans with a cast iron one 11 months ago and put in a new clutch disk as well. The cluch always slipped under hard power in 4th after that. As I say, I assume the worse but I'd like to know what failures would lead to a box full of nuetrals. Thank you, Bruce Knoer 88 turbo
