shudder in reverse - Auto Trans or ABS problem? 200

93 240 Sedan with Auto and ABS

when backing down my driveway, I feel a distinct shudder in the driveline. Steady intermittent light grabbing. Seems worse when I have my foot lightly on the brake pedal. Does not happen (or at least is not noticeable) in Drive.

Usually goes away quickly. But bothers me that it happens most every morning. Car drives, steers, and brakes normally otherwise. Transmission has been a little slow on the upshift lately but I attribute that to a recent kickdown cable adjustment.

I heard a non Volvo caller on NPR's Car Talk a few weeks ago with the same problem. Click and Clack believed it an ABS problem but I can't remember what they said to do about it.

Ideas for troubleshooting?
