Hello Bricksters,
My 84 240 has been driving me crazy lately. In the middle of a trip the other day the engine decides that it would not rev over 3,000 rpm. I pulled the AMM connector – putting it in limp home mode and it ran well enough to get me there. I did the diagnostic tests in the Bentley manual and determined that the AMM was faulty. A new unit was installed and the car got me to work. (It was cool in the early morning). Returning in the afternoon the problem returned. It is like you have to apply the least amount of pressure to the gas pedal to get the car moving, anything over 3,000 and the car bogs down like you pulled the coil wire off. The car runs fairly well in limp mode. It then revs past 4,000 rpm, so it doesn’t seem to be a fuel problem. I have checked or replaced the following..
fuel pump, new
fuel pressure regulator, new
AMM, new (luckily not too expensive)
checked continuity to from AMM to ECU, it seems fine.
Fuel pump relay/ faulty connections/ bad karma?
Could heat have something to do with this problem?
I am officially stumped.
Thanks,
Randy Anderson
