speedometer problems 200 1989

My odometer stopped working on my 1989 240, so I want to remove it and take it to s.d. speedo-tach to replace the gear. Unfortunately, I also need my wheels (it will be a three to four day turnover). Will driving the brick minus the speedometer be harmful? It seems like a silly question, but one can never be to cautious.
