wonky steering 200 1989

At my last inspection, the mechanic told me that I have a bad u-joint on the steering shaft.The steering has felt a little vague, with a dead spot. I thought it might have been the rack-so I guess this is a "better" bad situation.
Anyway, how do I fix this and where do I get one?tia
