camshaft press tool 700 1989

I am replacing the head gasket on my 16valve, and note the call for a camshaft press tool to remove the camshafts........2 questions

1-Does one have to remove the cam-carrier and therefore the camshafts from the head, or can the whole assy. be removed as one?

2-What can be used in place of the Volvo tool (5021) to hold down the camshaft while the bearing caps are removed. (to use 5021, one removes the center bearing cap and attaches the tool, then removes the rest of the bearing caps)...
