Sonic testing mandatory?

Hello all.

First, thanks to Jarrod for getting this board going again.

Secondly, I plan to have a hardly-worn 1979-1980 B21 bored to 2.3 liters. The goal for the atmospheric engine-to-be is around 175 hp. I am wondering if sonic testing for cylinder wall thickness is mandatory or if it is overkill and a waste of money.
