TOWER BRACES--WEIRD IDEA----?? maybe not--??

'89 240 DL wagon---This may seem "weird"-but it looks like I could use my old FRONT anti-sway bar that I replaced with IPDs-to act as a tower brace on top with a few adjustments by heating it to bend a little with a torch to get the end holes to where I can bolt it down on the top of the strut towers. It comes really close to fitting the bolts at the top of the struts already----(yes-I am cheap sometimes)-IPDs braces are $199. Also a billet aluminum bar-could that work? What is stress factors on the brace? I don't know that even if I can make the old anti-sway bar work--fit-bolt down-, would it do the job without any bad "side effects"? I think I need a mechanical engineer to do some calculations-LOL. What are the specifications on IPDs tower brace? Is some flex in the cross bar actually needed or would a solid piece of iron like the anti-sway bar do the job?? Anyone ever try this?? Thanks.
