Normally when I get something like this I clean ALL the terminals and
connection points on the big cables, scrape down the battery posts and
everything else that looks anything but shiny metallic. That usually
cures the problem. Volvos and other European cars are bad about growing
an invisible protective (nonconductive) film, maybe because of the alloys
they use for electrical stuff.
