I have one thought... might be a long shot. Have you replaced the fuel filter? If it is clogged, and you give more throttle, it will lean way out, giving the engine the symptoms you describe. It sounds as though you had to feather the throttle to find the acceleration sweet spot.

The simeple truth is one bad batch of gas can pull of gas station tank sediment and pump it right into your tank. this would glog a filter in a hurry.

That's what it sounds like to me anyway. let us know what you find.
