Thanks all! All 3 cars are MUCH better for your help.
The 87 NA 740 I just got still has some minor electrical issues, but it's getting there quick.
It's still showing the batt light after I rev the engine. It's charging @ 14v confirmed, but I changed the alt. with a known-good unit just for the heck of it. Still coming on.
The no ignition prob was simple. Though I was getting 12v through the neutral saftey switch, I had a major current drop....... turns out the switch is making contact, but loosing enough to not trigger the start solenoid. Cleaned the contacts & start she does. Going to put a new switch in anyway.
Still has the inst. cluster issues, but not going to worry with them any more 2day, as I'm going to drive the car to Birmingham later this eve & will be gone till the weekend. I'll finish checking it out further down there. (checked & cleaned the connections to the cluster. Checked & cleaned the screw contacts on the cluster. Checked & cleaned the grounds. No sign of the problem just yet :)
Right now, all that concerns me to any great extent is the batt light on after the engine is brought to 2k rpm & stays on. I'm not well informed on the exciter circuit for this system, could it be that the system is just not reading that the alt IS being excited?
