You have done the work and don't want to wear out your tires prematurely - Since you have time but not the cash due to layoff I suggest going in to a few auto repair shops and seeing if you can trade a few hours of your labor for one of theirs (an alignment takes about an hour). You could easily spend a few hours messing with your car's alignment with no results so why not help a shop by doing some cleaning of their customer service area (often neglected), shop (usually neglected), equipment (sometimes grungy) or parking lot (hey - it's spring)? A few hours work on your part could get you a professional alignment...
That would be my tactic.
