AC Why is 134a the standard.???????

Is it a matter of the first one out of the blocks? Money? Politics? What? Or is it something straight, like it being the best product? What gives?

So many alternative refrigerants available, but everywhere you go, almost, they only know how to say I word: "134a" Even in the epa test, retrofit for 134a is specified. The others are treated as "also rans".
