mount question, please, does anyone out there know

Got both kinds in my parts box, so side by side it was easy to see they are both the same thickness. The round one's got a lot more rubber, so it might be stiffer or stronger to keep the manual gearshift more stable(?), but I agree with Greg; either one is better than the old one, right? Also, the square mount has two tabs that look as though they'd be a help to hold it still while you remove the nuts. Haven't done it, but I could imagine it might be tough to remove a round one after the rubber sheared.
