How to tell if a brain is updated??

The word is that the 554 from 88 cars is the cure for a stall upon stop in an automatic car. I stuck a 554 in my 86 245 (M46) and did not like the way it ran however. I have seen posts on the technical bulletin that terms the 554 the update for the 544. That would be the only option. I doubt the ECU is behind your problems, though, unless you have a very rare bad one, or bad connector pin.
