I've noticed the posts you're doing, planning on racing perhaps?... Anyway for advanced carb tuning try MG or Jaguar sites, these cars have the same basic carbs so they'll have good info. My experience is thet the throttle plates have to seal(bushings have no slack) otherwise you can't tune them. As to damper oils etc.. the engine is pretty crude, it kinda doesn't care in stock config., maybe with a hot cam things would change, but basically you run these things rich until you you start to loose power then back off a notch, but your mpg might suffer.
