wheel bearings-simple questions

how often on 740's do the front wheel bearings last? Gonna do front brakes- pad and rotor replacement this weekend and wonder if I should replace them at same time. I believe don't fix it -if it ain't broke.Will a simple repack work? and has somebody out there used a new generation grease-like Slick 50 wheel bearing grease or will the castrol grease in garage-circa 1980's and clean still suffice? I have a brass punch if I need to change or should I let a machine shop press out. I have a skill level of 3.5 out of 5.thanks mark
