Compression check 700 1988

Hello All-

I am in the process of dismantling my engine, B230FT, and am wondering whether or not my pat diagnosis of blown head gasket may have been hasty.

After draining the oil and coolant, I found neither to look contaminated. I pulled the plugs to find they all looked pretty normal, although #4 looked a tiny bit wet. Not oily.

The front coolant hoses are off the car, and the distributor is out. Damn hall sensor connector snapped off but that's an easy fix.

Two questions-

1) if I replace oil filter and fill with oil, any reason I can't do a compression check?

2) Could I rig a cooling system pressure test by capping the water pump outlet, fill the upper connection at the head with coolant, and then test the system by rigging a pressure tester to a modified hose attatched?

I've never done either test before but maybe this would be a good time to learn. I began this journey after finding foamy oil residue all the way up the dipstick a few weeks ago.

Thanks for any input-
Dylan
