Wax removal from plastic bumper and side guards 700 1991

I think this may be a simple question but I have not figured it out yet: Does nayone know how (or with what) to remove wax or polish paste that has smeared onto a rough or porous plastic (black)bumper. Basically the light color of the wax makes the bumper look faded or overspray painted. What removes this wax?
