I am a notorious cheapskate. My winter beater '85 245T originally came with 195/60R15's. It now has:

LF Cooper 185/75R14
RF NoName 195/70R14
rear Pirelli Winter S2 205/75R14

It still goes, stops, and turns. Not well, mind you.
