Air compressor - what size?

To Bram Smith and Robert Ludwick,

Now that I've some facts to work on like the FAD and the CFM, I'm still unclear about the horse power rating that comes with the compressor. Some are rated 2hp, 5hp, 9hp and so on.

What is the importance of this rating?

I'm looking at a 2hp 24liter compressor that seems affordable enough. Would you recommend it?
