1) Are you from Mayberry?
2) Have a look at the underside of the rear package tray. Get way into the trunk and look at the metal. There are some rather large holes there, I think for weight savings and, incidentally, to make speaker installation easier.
3) You may be able to situate the 6x9's for minimum cutting.
4) There may be factory wiring in place. Pretty much all the wiring into the trunk comes through in a harness that enters about where the upper left corner of the rear seat back meets the body metal. You can see it from inside the trunk. there is a piece of sponge rubber/polyurethane foam jammed into the hole to seal it. The wires for the tail lights, trunk lock, license lights, power antenna, and rear speakers and whatever else.
5) The package tray trim can be removed. There are two plastic hold-down thingies that you should try to get out from inside the trunk or else just buy some new ones from your dealer. Once those buttons are out, try and lift the edge of the trim panel that's jammed into the rear seat back. It should come loose and slide out from under the brake light and the seat belt retractor covers.
6) Good Luck with the project. I am facing a similar problem and haven't resolved to climb into the trunk with the aircraft shears to cut the metal, yet.
