I am not wholly convinced it is as easy as just taking out the bulkhead underneath the rear window.
Volvo did a fair amount of re-engineering in the wagon at the back, presumably for structural integrity. I reckon you would need some kind of tubular framework to restore strength. Remember the rear shocks feed their load into the inner rear arch.
On a wagon there are box sections under the rear side windows, nothing in a saloon rear wing, and the upright behind the rear doors is more substantial.
