In the pic I see a cable clamp that may not be quite doing its job.

Remember that at 6 volts any speck of resistance has 4 times the

power impact that it does at 12 volts. Cables and wires need to

be BIG on 6 volt systems. 12 volt cables are NOT adequate.

(One of the big reasons to change to 12 volts is that the wiring

is a lot cheaper.)

I'd recommend getting a good voltmeter and seeing what happens at

various places in the circuit when you attempt to start.
