Our '88 745T failed to start at the local supermarket this morning. It had started normally at home, and the trip was < a mile. My wife got a guy from the adjacent gas station to come over. Jumping failed, but he hit the starter with a hammer, and then it started.
OK, shock is a wonderful tool, but does this indicate a problem with the solenoid (contacts not closing) or the motor itself (stuck, brushes shot, etc.) Are the starter and solenoid available separately? Is any refurb possible, such as simply replacing the brushes?
Thanks for any advice!
